In June 2007 I went on a fantastic trip to Africa, visiting the Virunga National Park to track the mountain gorillas of Rwanda, followed by a tented safari with my own guide in the Serengeti and Ngorogoro Crater, Tanzania.  It was an amazing trip.  I would highly recommend it to anyone who is tempted but just hasn't got round to going.

The trip was arranged through Discovery Initiatives.  Rwanda is a beautiful country, and is moving on from its troubled past.  Coming face to face with a mountain gorilla is an experience like nothing else.  You are aware that they watch you as intensely as you watch them.  Our guide Francoise, was the only remaining guide to have worked along side Dian Fossey.

After Rwanda, I visited the Serengeti, Tanzania.  To witness the largest land migration of animals in the world is awe-inspiring.  My visit to Tanzania was organized with Nomad-Tanzania, and they made it a fantastic experience.  The tented camp, which moves with the migration was excellent, and Rowland, my guide, was incredibly knowledgeable, and made it a wonderful experience.  The game viewing was just fantastic.
